Recording a booked interpretation and reproduction of such recording is prohibited unless permission is sought and given before the booking takes place. The GDPR requires consent to be requested and received from all parties before recording can be legally made – this includes interpreters. Under international law, specifically the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works and the International Copyright Convention, the work of an interpreter is protected and cannot be recorded and published without the express permission from the interpreter.
Any recording of my work as a BSL interpreter is protected by copyright and must not be reproduced or used without my express permission. Reproduction or use of this work for the development of Artificial Intelligence technology is strictly prohibited

Damian Brewer, member of the Deaf community from a Deaf family. Working in the Deaf community for the last 35 years . Native signer.

Damian specialises in interpreting between BSL and English, in health settings (Damian has a Masters degree in Public Health and also on the UK Public Health Register as a practitioner - a medical register), Damian mainly works one to one in community interpreting settings or can do group work online

Damian also sits on the British Sign Language Advisory Board, advising the Civil Service on sign language policy and inclusion.
