Level 1 British Sign Language (BSL) Course - In Person ( Hassocks )

The Signature accredited Level 1 Award in British Sign Language (BSL) is a qualification desibned to teach learners to communicate with deaf people on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language use. The learners will gain basic skills and confidence in production and reception of British Sign Language (BSL).

To achieve the Level 1 Award in British Sign Language (BSL), learners must pass all 3 units:

• BSL 101 - Introduction to BSL - Meeting people, Using numbers, Weather, Transport & Directions (5 minute assessment)

• BSL 102 - Conversational BSL - Describing People, animals & objects, Using numbers, Interests & activities, Food & Drink

  (4-5 minute assessment)

• BSL 103 - Communicate in BSL about Everyday Life - Getting around, Sharing information, Weather & Using numbers

  (4-5 minute assessment)

The Level 1 Award is suitable for those who:

• want to learn basic language skills to communicate simple conversations with deaf people

• want to learn new langauge skills as part of a programme of study

• want to progress to more advanced study and/or employment

• are studying for personal development

• are parents, family, friends, or colleagues of deaf people

Course dates

The course will be held on Wednesdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm with Emma Desbruslais at Talking Hands Studio, Hassocks.

• 7th, 14th, 21st October (28th half term)

• 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th November

• 2nd, 9th, 16th December (23rd & 30th half term)

• 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th January 2027

• 3rd, 10th, 24th February (17th half term)

• 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th March (31st half term)

• 14th, 21st, 28th April (7th half term)

• 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th May (31st half term)

• 9th, 16th June

Assessment dates

• 23rd June BSL 101 assessment

• 30th June BSL 102 assessment

• 7th July BSL 103 assessment

If assesment dates are not suitable there is an additonal fee in order to change them.

£545 + online service fee
