Level 2 British Sign Language (BSL) Course

The Signature Accredited Level 2 BSL qualification is designed to teach learners to develop their skills to communicate with deaf people using BSL in a range of everyday situations. The qualification will allow learners to participate in longer and more varied conversations than at Level 1. The learners will be able to deal with most routine communication and have enough understanding of grammar to cope with some non-routine communication, gain basic skills and confidence in production and reception of BSL.

To achieve the Level 2 Award in British Sign Language (BSL), learners must pass all 3 units:

• BSL 201 -  Receptive skills (Everyday Conversation) 15-25 minutes assessment
• BSL 202 -  Productive skills  (Travel & Holidays) 3-5 minutes assessment
• BSL 203 -  Conversational skills (Eating & Drinking) 6-7 minutes assessment

The Level 2 Award is suitable for those who:

• want to achieve language skills at an intermediate level to improve communication with deaf people
• are deaf and wish to gain a qualification in their native language
• are family, friends and colleagues of deaf people
• want to progress from Level 1 study in BSL and who may want to progress to more advanced levels of study in BSL at a later date
• are studying for personal development

The course will be on Mondays at the studio, 6pm-8pm for 40 weeks, in term time only. In addition to the course, learners are required to commit to 50 hours of independent study.

Assessments dates

•  BSL 202 15th July 2024 (pass mark 50%, i.e. 15/30)
•  BSL 203 22nd July 2024 (pass mark 50%, i.e. 15/30)
•  BSL 201 29th July 2024 (pass mark 75%, i.e. 9/12)

Course fee

£600 all inclusive

A deposit of £50 is required to reserve a place on the course, which will be deducted from the course fee.

Those who have deaf children can apply for funding, please go to Birkdale Trust or Ovingdean Hall Trust.
